Preparing For Quilting
We currently only accept quilts up to a queen size.
Lay the quilt out flat and check that it is square. Measure at the top, middle and bottom to make sure they’re the same.
Check for wrinkles, waves or folds and correct. These can’t always be quilted out and we can’t guarantee you won’t end up with a fold quilted into the border.
Clip threads on front and back of the quilt. Loose threads on the back can show through on light fabrics.
Stitch down side seams at ⅛” seam allowance.
Press and starch or best press. Fold neatly.
Remove embellishments, buttons, ribbons, etc.
Mark the top of the quilt with a safety pin.
If you would like us to prep the quilt for you:
Backing assembly for a simple backing (less than 30 minutes)
$25/hour
For complex backing (greater than 30 minutes) $30/hour
Centering a quilt on a complex backing $20
Quilt prep (fixing borders, pressing seams, trimming threads).
$25 hour, minimum of 1 hour
Backing
Backing must be 10” larger than the top (+5” each side all the way around).
If you piece the back, press the seams open or to one side.Press and starch back.
Square back, measure top, middle and bottom.
Do NOT use sheets, the thread count is too high and is too hard on the machine and needles.
Non-cotton backing surcharge is $10. Fleece, Minky and Snuggle fabrics are excessively stretchy and take extra care in loading and in pattern choice.
How long does it Take?
Turnaround time depends on what is ahead of you in the shop. I will try to give you a date during our consultation and update you should the timeline change. Please take this into consideration when planning your project.
Our rush order fee is $40
